Toys often overlooked difference between the U.S. and Europe

The media often covers the many differences between the U.S. and Europe, but an important difference that is often overlooked is in the toys. Since I was born and raised in Europe, but have lived in the U.S. most of my life adult, I can attest to the very different philosophies that are maintained as far as toys go.

In Europe, I grew up and around a variety of good invoice, natural toys, often simple in nature that were made of wood or soft tissue. European toys are not only made of natural materials, but also ends natural can be sure to give younger children. They are more sophisticated in ways that encourage imagination, creativity and development of fine motor skills, so important in each age group.

In early adulthood I came to America to study, but soon met my husband-to-be and we started a life together. They are mostly plastic and often had flashing lights and music at the touch of a button, far from encouraging any imagination or creativity. When my son was several months we made a trip to Europe to visit family and friends. While I did not realize that the children of my friends had toys that were very different from the toys they had in the U.S., and more similar to toys that I himself had experienced growth. It made me realize that times have changed in Europe, as I had convinced myself I had to be the case, and that they I grew up with toys were still in high demand. It became clear to me that plastic toys were mass-produced and manufactured as cheaply as possible by a few select companies of America, which gained control of the Latin market due to its profitability and distribution capacity.

Once back home the journey and my friends were delighted by natural toys that brought their children, it occurred to me that they did not realize that there were more safer and more exciting options. Several of them are increasingly concerned about the safety of plastic toys after hearing and reading numerous reports on toxicity and safety problems due to lead contamination. In an instant he had decided that not only was not going to subject my own child for these toys, but I also wanted to make sure that others with the same concerns had the opportunity to provide their children with the safety of toys too.
