How can I make happy parakeets?

I do not believe in putting animals in cages, but I live with other people who I do not really have a choice. My family always had birds in cages so its not really impressive or anything but I do not know what bothers me now in my 20, but I know what I can do for the birds happy (apart from the release of them)? Is there any treatment that can give the parrots or what? If it was a dog, I would give him a steak or something cuz thats a treat dogs, but what can I do with birds? They already have some toys in his cage (such as mirrors and ladders and other things that Im sure you have boring after the first week)

I leave the cage on the floor with the door open and a ladder to the floor for them to come and go as they pleased that they've come to this and not go anywhere but the living room floor is fun to watch, play with toys, going out, drink water and so all day.
