How can I tell if my new parakeet / budgie is a child or teenager?

I just bought a new parakeet yesterday. The store said it was young – but I do not know how young. How do I know? Thank you.

There are 3 areas that can be examined to determine how old your parakeet, head, eyes and legs, head – If your parakeet has stripes (barring) on their head to their ceremonies, it usually means that less than 4 months old. This is not the case of albinos and lutino budgies, as they do not have stripes. Eyes – Budgies under 4 months of age usually have their eyes completely black. The exception is again to the albino, lutino whose eyes always red. After 4 moths of age, often develop an iris parakeets light gray or white. Legs – If you're lucky, your parakeet may come with a band around one leg indicating the year of birth. If parakeet has no headbands or black eyes, this is the only way that will able to tell how old it is.
