neon screwdriver is useful for testing live wires on a lighting circuit while a ladder?

as the idea is your supposed to should be on the floor with these testers, I'm trying some wires up a metal ladder and wondered if the ladder is blocking the true reading. thanks ..

The idea that should be on the floor when using a neon screwdriver is not correct. They do not work on a mass basis through his body. If this is the case then never work for the people standing on carpets, wooden or concrete floors or using any type of shoes.
