The Two Minute Guide to owning a bird
Some birds can live over 56 years, so you have to make sure it is the type of pet are really looking for. Here are some pointers you should check before you invest in a new bird.
Get a young bird. The best thing is to get a very young bird. Training is easier for both. I really think it is better to buy from a breeder of birds. There are good and bad breeders, so you need to do some investigations. Ask local vets if they know of reputable breeders. Visit them and see how well you care for the birds. If the place of the birds are raised is a disorder unhealthy, that's a good runway walk.
Leave the bird you choose! No joke! If you choose a bird you like, does not mean that you like. No nothing worse than arriving at a bird that does not like you. Birds have personalities! They choose people they like and they may be aggressive or shy away from someone you do not like.
Always keep your bird-veterinarian at least once a year. It's amazing how people have the car checked out regularly, but totally ignore your bird! Since birds are very good at hiding when they are sick, you may not notice it until it's too late. Learn to identify signs of not feeling well.
Make sure you get the proper size cage. Must be large enough for birds to do something to exercise their wings. You must have sufficient space perch. View space between bars and doors. The birds get their head trapped between the bars if too wide.
Birds love to play with toys! Loaded with many of them. Stay away from the ropes and toys, fabrics that fray easily and is wrapped around the feet and toes.
Large birds like to chew. Unless you want Wooden hangers replace every two weeks, get some blocks. Hang them in chains and birds love them! If your birds are allowed out of the cage, should be monitored closely. wooden windows, furniture and cabinets are their favorite treats!
Keep your bird's wings clipped. If you are going to have a pet I do not want to find out what a ceiling fan feels. It is not uncommon for a bird out of its cage and blow up a door or window open. If a bird is released to side may never again. Other dangers are flying through the windows or in the kitchen where cooking on hot stoves. There are pros and cons of clipping the wings, so think carefully on this aspect.
Pay attention to your bird's eating habits and behavior. Watch for changes. When a bird gets sick, have a tendency to hide his illness. But time has shown that the bird is sick, may be too late for medical help.
It is important that you keep information about you that I would say to one emergency official who has a bird or birds in the house that needs some one to check on them. It would be terrible to be in a serious accident and nobody knows you have pets at home depending on you.
You should always have the arrangements are for someone to take care for your bird to die. There is a thought nice, but remember that bigger birds have a long life, and you want to make sure you have someone to do so.
