Looking to live in East London?

Me and my partner are moving to east or south-east London, because I'm from there and he just got Uni work in Canary Wharf. We want to be within 30 minutes from Poplar DLR station. If it's a decent area and not too expensive to live and how much rent per month. I am a little anxious when I have been looking for. I would prefer to live in a flat bed, nothing fancy but Id rather not be sleeping next to my toilet. I would not mind a house with people from other 1 to 3, but not this communial facilities. Can I get some honest advice, because its stressing me out! Thank you!

Arco (Tower Hamlet E3) is not as bad (some parts of it), some of the new properties are newly built modern apartments, I can not think of one of its Tredegar on the road and literally a stone's throw from a ski DLR (Bow Church, about 5 minutes walk). But I have no idea the amount of rental prices. On the other Part I personally live in Surrey Quays (SE16), very pleasant, and I personally think it's better to spend east London. However, the rental prices are more often rent a 1 bedroom apartment for £ 950 PCM. The transport links are good and Canada Water station is very close and the Jubilee line is 1 stop from Canary Wharf.
