finches winter
Where are all the birds in winter has gone? My feeders used to be empty in a day, what happens?

I used to have tons of birds at my feeders, which empties into a day. Now, in the last few years are fewer and fewer birds. I used to have pine siskins, goldfinches American climbers, chickadees, purple finches, chipping sparrows … Now do not get anything. The same has happened in my mother's house. Has anyone else experienced this? or is it just us? I am in Northern Ontario Canada, usually have a lot of birds. I wonder what is happening in recent times!

You may have just moved to another local area. I realized I do not get as many birds eating from my feeders in the winter months and I in the spring. Apparently he Otherwise I would think less food would be available in the winter, but seems to go right to find themselves. I continue with feeders to help anyway along in the case of food is particularly scared. In the spring when birds are breeding, they need far more energy than the eggs and hatchlings for food, and may only be able to leave the nest for short periods so … feeders can be a source of quick and easy meal. They also have to fatten for migration so the feeder can also use more in the spring before leaving for their wintering. Also, keep in mind, songbirds are declining worldwide .. what the numbers may be up this year. Do not take it down .. just leave it to other birds that may occur.
