finches nests
If i take out my zebra finches nesting box and get a female, will they still mate?

I want a female. i already have a male, and he has a nest. he never goes in it anyhow, but if i get a female, i dont want them to mate. will they mate if i take the nest out?
thanks so much <3~<3~<3

Well… since the natural drive to reproduce is a great factor, they will most likely mate. Why not get another male? Take out the nest anyway, and see what happens.
Many finches will lay eggs in a food dish, or on the ground. If that happens, just take out the eggs.
BUT… if you notice that the female continues to lay eggs-don’t take out anymore, otherwise it will probley be a continuous cycle, in which the female might die-due to calcium loss only. It takes so much calcium to produce an egg-infertile or not.

All in all, the conclusion will probley be that they WILL mate, and many times the eggs will not be fertile, so it probley won’t be a thing to worry about!
Remember.. every bird is different so i could be wrong!
