my canary is looking real swollen, help?

my canary is so swollew i don’t know whats wrong. i just had one die on me daturday and it looked swollened. i just been feeding them canary bird food “premium” blemd, millet, change water twice a day and food. i did bake some egg shells and let them have some crunched up. now i do not. please help. this one is 7 weeds old.

Take it to the vet.

Questions on pet bird care ?

Thinking of getting a bird. I know that there is a variety of breeds with different needs but generally how clean are they?
2) What are pros and cons?
3) If you let a bird out of its cage for exercise would it poop everywhere or would it go back to its cage to go toilet?
4) What are good bird types for first time owners? (preferably one that can talk )

I’ve had birds consistently throughout my life since the age of 6, and am now over 50. Birds ARE messy. There’s no getting around it. Unlike dogs who go outside, and cats who use a litter box, birds poop in their cages or wherever they happen to be. Whereas ground dwelling animals like dogs and cats would cover up their poop in the wild, birds just let it drop then fly off since a predator cannot track them in the air. If you are a first time bird owner I’d recommend a budgie (parakeet). I still think they are the best pet in the world – friendly and talkative and they CAN be taught to speak though it will take time and patience on YOUR part – you have to spend the time speaking the phrase you wish the bird to say over and over to it. I’d suggest finding a young bird who will be more easily trained than an older one. With budgies, if the stripes on it’s head go all the way to it’s nose, it’s a young bird, and if they front of the head is solid color and the stripes begin at the crown of the head, it’s a mature bird. Males have a blue nose and females have a pinkish brown nose. I’ve heard males are better talkers though can’t say from personal experience. The other good thing is that budgie poop is very tiny unlike the poop of larger birds which is a lot messier, and WILL stain furniture and clothing. I had a bird who was ‘cage trained’ and would either fly back to his cage to poop, or let me know so I could take him but this was when he was older, and I worked with him to teach him this. Also though he’d go back to his cage, he wouldn’t go IN the cage to do it, he’d do it ON his cage, which would then require cleaning.
Most birds also throw their food and there will usually be food, feathers, and poop in the vicinity of the cage. If you or the people you live with are “neat freaks” then maybe a bird isn’t the best choice of pet.
Also – if you have other pets – reconsider getting a bird. Dogs and especially cats can be very aggressive toward birds (snakes too). I shudder whenever I see people posting photos and videos of birds interacting with dogs and cats and people thinking how “cute” this is – it’s cute until the dog or cat turns unfriendly which could happen at any time. I watched my cousin’s budgie die in her hands because her daughter let it out when the cat was loose and the cat had pounced on it – 10 hours earlier. The bird had gotten away but it was a TINY pinprick from just one claw that killed the bird – it’s the bacteria on the cat’s claws.
So – if you don’t have dogs or cats and can deal with a certain amount of mess, I’d say go for it, and get a budgie. They are hysterical to watch and can always cheer you up!

Help me out with this tough question please!?

If you had 72 pieces of string and they were all red but three of them…and 4 of them were yellow, how many pieces of red string would it take to drag a yellow canary bird cage down to the green pond? The answer is NOT 26.

I want a big Parrot Cage but they are so expensive at your local petstore.

eBay is decent, but I find all of my big deals at bird expos.

I bought a huge cage for my GW Macaw at only $275. My nearbye Petland charges $950 for the same exact cage.

It’s not that I couldn’t afford the Petland cage. It’s that my father would have had an absolute fit if I wasted so much money on something that I could get for more than half elsewhere.

Pet stores lovvvve to mark up their prices ridiculously in the sake of profit. No wonder only a minority of people give their pets what they really need.

What’s the best site to buy pet supplies online?

I want to get some mice…where’s a good place to order cages, food, and toys?

Petsmart is byfar the best and the prices are low.

I go to petsmart almost everyday for my little meeses :] i have two males they are the cutest.
May i reccomend a few things;

Nutriphase rat/mouse formula food is the best i has pleanty of mixures of seeds, dried fruits, etc. My mice love it.

You may also want to get some Bi-odor it is around 12 or 13 bucks if you put it in your mice water it will eliminate any type of body odor from your mice, mice can tend to have a horrible odor i know 12 or 13 bucks is quite rediculous but its worth it in the long run i swear. My mice have no smell once so ever now. heres the link ;

Another thing Dont put two males in the same cage try to get two females because two males will fight i found this out by experience i have two seperated males now! Females get along way better.

what kind of leash and collar/harness do you use for your dog?

i use a retractable flexi leash for my shih tzu.. along with a camouflage aspen pet collar i got from wal-mart.. and when im not using a collar i use a harness and i use a camouflage puppia harness.

I have a 8month old 145lb english mastiff we use a prong collar and a leather leash
and a bichion frise 3 year old 15lb we use a prong collar and a leather leash
