Are my canaries man or woman – you have a blue stripe in the leg and the other has two leg bands – blue and red?

I had a canary yellow presumably male about a month or so. I never feel quite right not to have a female counterpart, so I went to several pet stores in search of a woman. Finally, a month later, I went to Petco and had two canaries – the sign that lists the species, price, etc, said they were women, so I I bought one. I bring it home and sings like the canary so first thing I had! Does this mean that both are male and I have cheated? If it is of some importance, the first time the Canary Islands has two leg bands on his leg – one red and one blue. The canary second I have only one leg band – a blue one. Do you have a blue leg band means that is female, while the two leg bands, red and blue means it is male? If so, I thought men were supposed to be strong singers – how is that mine are singing as if part of the opera?

The leg bands are meaningless, except for the breeder to keep the babies separately. Females can often sing as well as boys. Why not enjoy them???
