Aare Canary friendly and a good pet to have?

I had a canary when I was little and hardly remember. I also had a parakeeet that was a bird always so nice to him out of the cage and played me like a child, but the second parakeet I wasn't easy at all! So please tell me if the canaries are friendly and fun to let out of the cage and play with? Or if not what other birds would recommend you and not a parrot, as they grow up to be so big. Canary is good to have because they are very easy to care for and sings beautifully. I have 2 canaries Sylvester and Tweet. Canaries are pleasant to watch, but it has like to be handled and if left out of the cage you have problems catching them. I would suggest a baby parakeet, preferably one that has been raised by hand, also You can teach a parrot to do tricks and talk, and also how to handle. Hope this helps.
