Yellow-headed Amazon parrots
Despite its name, Yellow Headed Amazon parrot did not originate in the Amazon. That actually originated along the regions coast of Mexico. Their beautiful colors and amazing marked in bold are those that helped make them so popular as pets. They are predominantly bright green with a head bright yellow and a beautiful red spot on each wing. Its Native Habitat is now mainly in Central America, where large tropical forests and swamps that allow nest safely. Its beauty has made them to be rare and threatened species. The poaching of birds and deforestation in the region has caused a dramatic decrease in the number of birds.
Yellow-headed Amazons are bred in captivity are easily available, but have become very expensive. Then people like them because can be very verbal and talkative. The problem is that the ability to talk with each bird varies greatly. Some will talk to one ear, while others can not say a word. They are incredibly intelligent. They are also playful and have great a great sense of humor. Add to that the fact that it can be very noisy and has has a housefull of excitement. They like the attention and if not you will undoubtedly receive knowledge that are needed at the time. The challenge for the owner is getting the bird to replace all screaming with clever words. A wonderful and rewarding challenge.
These birds are usually very active and need an environment that allows them the space to fly and move. There cage is a great place in the house of them, but it takes time each day to get out and about. The good news is that although they are quite large and can be very destructive, their intelligence allows them to be very well not trained to break their own house. Obviously, part of the training is to provide lots of chew toys and branches to play with them.
The male yellow-headed parrot will grow to about 15 centimeters long and the female will be slightly smaller. Their hooked beak is used to break seeds and fruits dry and as a hand to help them grip and climb. Their feet have two toes pointing forward and two toes pointing backwards. The configuration ideal for capturing and food branches.
In the wild, their diet consists of mainly fruits, nuts, corn, flowers, etc. At home, the owner need not only provide fruits and vegetables, but also seeds and pellet foods.
One of the main considerations for a person taking into account the adoption of a Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot is your life expectancy. The birds of this size can live 60 years with some reported to reach 100 years. To the right person, these birds will give you many years of happiness, pleasure and entertainment.
