My African Gray Parrot?
I notice that my African gray parrot has been acting strange lately. We have a large cage that he sleeps on a perch and in the kitchen during the day on which he sits and looks at what is happening. Lately, when he put in his post he sleeping and very very sleepy, well suffice it to say that has some bald spots around his feet. I understand that African gray parrots can pull their feathers because of boredom, but we tones of toys for him, took him around our house and have a 4 foot by 4 foot cage.So can someone please help because I am very concerned about his behavior. Thanks
It's time to consult a good avian vet. Gray symptoms are not normal or easy to explain. Ask for a full blood panel done and they marked skin parasites. Do not leave any stone unturned. Take the role of the cage (on the day of his appointment EFP) and twice with the stern in and put it in a bag of ziptop. Your vet will want. Are you using any Teflon or Silverstone pots and pans in the kitchen? These products give off gases when heated that are deadly to birds, but do not bother us. If so, then the bird should not be anywhere near the kitchen. You need to replace the pans with regular cooking pots stainless steel, or at least is not Teflon coated. The birds can recover from this type of poisoning, but it takes time and one must be cautious. You will be surprised by the way many of our devices have Teflon-coated parts, hair dryers, toasters, toaster ovens, self-cleaning ovens, drip pans in the top of the stove, and of course pots and pans, just to name the most common. It's also never a good idea for a bird to be in the kitchen when any amount of cooking is going on. Keep elsewhere during food preparation. I hope your vet can find the cause. Good luck.
